Havlíčkův Brod
Welcome to the website of the Kalamajka Folk-Art Group from Havlíčkův Brod. Greetings to all from a town in a beautiful location in the Highlands of the Czech Republic. Kalamajka’s first public performance took place in 1971 when a children’s dance group was led by teacher Lucie Honsigová. For more than 20 years afterwards, the children enriched the cultural life of Havlíčkův Brod and its surroundings, as well as sister cities abroad, such as Spišská Nová Ves in Slovakia, Brielle in the Netherlands, Brixen-Bressanone in Italy, and many others.
After 1989, a group was formed from a few enthusiasts, former group members who created the basis for the Kalamajka adult group. The children’s section of the group has been active again since 2008. The group portfolio consists mainly in songs, dances, games, rhymes and legends from the Highlands - Czech and Moravian “Horácko”.
Kalamajka is supported by its members and their families, fans at home and abroad, sponsors and the Municipality of Havlíčkův Brod - many thanks to all of them. The main goal of our mission is seen by us in preserving the folk traditions of our region, strengthening the awareness of the cultural heritage of our ancestors.
